Almost Home Golf Tournament

Almost Home is Kingston’s home for families with sick kids. For 32 years, Almost Home has been serving families in need in Eastern Ontario by providing housing and care when a child becomes sick. We are writing to ask for your support through the sponsorship of our 32nd Anniversary Golf Tournament.

The 2024 tournament will take place at Rivendell Golf Club, a beautiful 18-hole course set in the glacial contours of the Canadian Shield and the location of our very first golf tournament thirty years ago! This year’s tournament will feature a smoked brisket lunch, games, prizes, and more!

Last year our tournament sold out with nearly two hundred golfers. We hope to count you, and, among our sponsors and would love to host your team on our course. The event is set for Friday, Sept 13th, when supporters of our charity will join together on a countryside course to raise funds and help sick kids and families in need.

ABOUT ALMOST HOME

Each month, Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital provide treatment for children with serious, complex, or chronic medical problems. These children often must stay in hospital for long periods of time. Many must wait months or even years before knowing the comfort and security of home.

Almost Home has eleven guest rooms where families of children can stay for just $10 a night, though no family is ever turned away because of inability to pay. Each of the rooms is different, and range in size from small one-parent rooms to large rooms that can accommodate an entire family.

Daily accommodation at Almost Home makes it easy for parents to maintain their bedside vigil. Children can frequently leave their hospital beds for a few hours to spend time with their families in a home-like setting. Children attending clinics have a place to go between appointments, or to stay overnight if necessary.

A child’s illness plunges parents into a strange and confusing new life of medical concerns. Repeated trips to the hospital, for days or weeks at a time, typically means one parent takes a leave from or quits their job. They worry about how the child will get over the next hurdle. Until “going home day” families have plenty of worries. The recovery of their child is foremost of course, but there’s also the strain of bedside “shifts”, finding and paying for meals in an unfamiliar city, costs for parking and gas, loss of income, exhaustion, childcare for siblings, disruption of family life, pressures on marriages, and serious psychological strain on siblings. Almost Home allows families to stay together during these times of stress.

THE FACTS ABOUT ALMOST HOME

• Almost Home is 32! In 1992, a group of healthcare professionals banded together, raised over one million dollars, and created Almost Home. Many of these founders continue to steward our charity.
• Besides families with children admitted to a Kingston-area hospital, families with children receiving outpatient care or attending clinic appointments can use the facilities at Almost Home.
• There is a large well-equipped kitchen. Staples such as sugar, milk, coffee, bread, etc., are provided.
• You do not need to rent a room to use the facilities at Almost Home. Families are welcome to drop by during the day to shower, do laundry, or just to have a coffee and a cookie and relax in the kitchen. There is no charge for using the house during the day.
• Almost Home is helped by volunteers who contribute a combined hundreds of hours per week in housekeeping, gardening, management, program planning, fundraising and board work.
• Almost Home has helped over 6,000 families since it opened its doors in November 1992.
• Coordinating the support services and operating a large home requires time and money. Over $400,000 per year is needed.
• Almost Home does not receive government or agency funding. We rely 100% on the support of generous community leaders like you!

As the hole-in-one sponsor you will be required to offer a prize with a minimum retail value of $15,000
(insurance may be purchased)

• (2) Almost Home volunteer spotters will be provided on contest hole

Closest to the Pin

As closest to the pin sponsor you will be required to offer two (2) separate prizes each with a minimum retail
value of $150.
